The Lamb of God
Posted January 25th, 2010 by Doug ArmandScripture
Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year. You may take it from the sheep or from the goats.
Now the blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you; and the plague shall not be on you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt.
Exodus 12:5,13
Observation
The feast of Passover was being instituted at this moment and it would serve as picture of the redemption that would eventually be purchased at the cross of Calvary for all mankind. The instruction was given to choose to spotless lamb, one without blemish – a picture of innocence and purity. This lamb was to represent the spotless Lamb of God, Jesus, who would one day “take away the sins of the world.” This purity and innocence was to be contrasted by the sinfulness of humanity – the sinfulness that deserved the response of God’s wrath. In God’s awesome mercy, He provides the blood of the pure and spotless to cleanse those who are not spotless and pure. He gives the Holy for the unholy. Redemption is purchased.
Application
It is not difficult for me to see myself in this picture. Too often I am reminded that I am not that “spotless lamb without blemish.” Too often I am reminded that, because of my failures, I deserve the wrath of God. What an incredible truth that God would provide, has provided the Lamb of God to take away my sins! I don’t have to live under the wrath of God. I don’t have to cower in His presence. He has made a way for me to be reconciled to Him, to walk with Him, to be made whole. At the cross, I exchange my blemished state for His unblemished. I exchange my sinfulness for His righteousness.
Prayer
God, thank You for providing the perfect Lamb of God to take away my sins. Thank You for taking my sins and giving me Your righteousness. Thank You that I can come to You, I can walk with You. I am not a slave to sin but You have made a servant of righteousness. Make me more like You every day and strengthen me to do Your will today. Thank you Jesus! Amen.

I really is hard to grasp how He provided everything we need to be redeemed and forgiven. His plan to make a way for us, sinners who are undeserving, yet b/c of His great love for us He did it even before we knew anything about Him !!! God is so good.
