Scripture

Lord, who may dwell in your sanctuary? Who may live on your holy hill? He who walks blameless and who does what is righteous, who speaks the truth from his heart and has no slander in his tongue, who does his neighbor no wrong and casts no slur on his fellowman, who despises a vile man but honors those who fear the Lord, who keeps his oath even when it hurts, who lends money without usury and does not accept a bribe against the innocent. He who does these things will never be shaken. Psalm 15

Observation

In this psalm, David the psalmist reflects on the importance of a pure character for those who would worship God and have an intimate relationship with Him.

Application

David summarizes what are important components of having an intimate relationship with the Lord. 1) We must develop a pattern of life that is blameless. This word means genuine, free from ethical lapses, corruption and inconsistencies, though we may not reach perfection. 2) Our actions are righteous. We live in harmony with God’s standards, including truthfulness, and showing respect to others. 3) We will experience stability in our lives, enjoying intimacy with God.

Prayer

Lord, help me to focus my life on the important things that develop intimacy with You. Help me develop daily habits and thought processes that form in me a character of genuine righteousness and respect for others. Thank you that through Jesus, I can have the strength to overcome obstacles that would keep me from experiencing Your intimacy.
