Ask God First!!!

II Chronicles 18:3 for Isreal’s king Ahab asked Judah’s king, Jehoshaphat “will you go with me to Ramoth-gilead” He replied to him, “I am as you are, my people as your people; we will be with you in battle.” HCSB
Observation
Jehoshaphat commits to go to battle with Ahab right away. He commits himself and his whole army to whatever battle Ahab has planned. The problem is three things: 1) Jehoshaphat consults God’s will after he has already committed to go to battle with Ahab 2) Jehoshaphat’s judgement and loyalty is clouded by him being related by marriage to Ahab 3) Ahab does not serve God and Jehoshaphat does.
Application
How many times have I made this same mistake where I committed to a friend before I asked God’s opinion. My loyalty to my friends and the other God given relationships can easily cloud my judgment if I do not get God’s opinion first. Not that these friends are not serving God also, but that commonality does not guarantee that what God asks my friend to do is also what he wants me to do.
Prayer
God forgive me for being more loyal to my friends than I am to You. God help me to not be so quick to commit to my friends that I forget to consult with You first!!!
