In HIM We Live

Scripture

for in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, ‘For we are also His offspring. Acts 17:28

Observation

Paul usually began his missionary journey in a new city by going into the Jewish synagogues. This pattern is observed in Acts 17:1-24. However in Acts 17: 22-34 we see Paul preaching to the philosophers of his day in a place called Areopagus or “Mars Hill”. Paul’s goal was to connect with ALL types and groups of people in order that he may share the gospel with them. Paul was a master communicator and knew how to connect with people regardless of one’s church culture or cultural differences.

Application

I recently spoke at a funeral service where it was obvious that many people present had little or no church background, and living various lifestyles that are very different from mine. In the same room were several types or groups of people that were gathered together to hear a message. What would that message be that would connect with everyone? Thankfully, there were some strong Godly Men present to help me with this challenge. Much like the apostle Paul, they knew exactly what to say in order to connect with everyone in that room. They talked about the Person of Jesus Christ and the fulfillment one experiences when you have a personal relationship with Jesus, not a philosophy of how to live. Essentially, they communicated “it is in Him we live and move and have our being”. Like the apostle Paul, they knew exactly how to convey a message that would cross all cultural and all lifestyle differences in order to connect with everyone’s heart!

Prayer

Lord, do not ever let me get so far ahead of people that I am unable to connect with their heart. I pray that I will always personally remember and publically communicate to others that it is in You that we live and move and have our being! Amen.
